Three tough Aussie guys, Shane, Ricky and Billy were working on a high-rise building project in Surfers Paradise. Unfortunately, Shane falls off the scaffolding and is killed instantly, everyone is shattered. The Turnbull Stakes was first run in 1865 over 3,200 metres and was won by The Sign, only four years after the running of the first Melbourne Cup. It is now 2,000 metres and is for horses 4 years and older. It hit Group One status from 2010 onwards (one year in 2006 it was Group 1) and has been known as the Turnbull Stakes after the VRC Chairman at the time Richard Turnbull since 1948. It started out in 1865 to 1894 as the Royal Park Stakes, then the September Stakes (1895-1897), the October Stakes (1898-1935), the Melbourne Stakes (1936-1947) and finally the Turnbull Stakes from 1948 onwards. It is the ideal platform for horses preparing for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup. Some famous winners include Wakeful (1903), Amounis (1930), Ajax (1938, 40), Bernborough (1946), Comic Court (1949-1950), Rising Fast (1954), Tobin Bronze (1966), Galilee (1968), Leilani (1974), Dulcify (1979), Super Impose (1989), Better Loosen Up (1990), Let’s Elope (1991), Naturalism (1992), Sunline (2001), Northerly (2002), Makybe Diva (2005), Efficient (2009) and finally Winx twice in recent years (2017-18)…….……..Watch the unbelievable win by Winx at $1.10 in the 2018 Turnbull Stakes – CLICK HERE
